One Thousand

In a little over five years of blogging, I've notched-up a thousand posts. I never imagined when I started what a terrific record of my quilting it would create, the friendships and inspiration it has generated, or what it has done for my little part of the quilting world. Blogging isn't just about writing posts, it's about sharing with and participating in a community.

In celebration of my thousandth post, I'm having a giveaway. I'm preparing to start working on a new quilt, which I can't share for a while yet, but Eleanor and I are very excited about it. I've ordered some wide fabric to paint myself, and some special stencils to go with it. And amongst others, I will be using the quilting pattern drawn below:

To enter the giveaway, all you need to do is comment, guessing the famous design source of my quilting pattern. In exactly a week, I will randomly pick a winner, who will receive a bundle of fabrics totalling 3-5 metres, all linked to the quilt design. (I've been collecting them for a while, as the design concept simmered away at the back of my mind, but many won't make it into the final quilt.) I'll also include a copy of Australian Patchwork & Quilting magazine with one of my designs.

GIVEAWAY CLOSED Winner and answer announced here.

  3. It looks like a garden gate to me, as well. I'm not very well versed on quilting designs yet (just starting), but have been following your blog for a few months now. You do such beautiful work!

  6. Well I tried to cheat by dropping it into google images and all it came up with was graphs and some how I don't think that's it! (just goes to show, cheat doesn't pay!) Looks like gates to a grand park or cemetery

  7. I believe that the design source is none other than Frank Lloyd Wright!

  8. Your drawing is a very pretty gate, but I sure don't know which one! I even Googled "famous gate designs" and didn't find any that look like your pretty one. Well, I hope you find a deserving winner! Congratulations on 1000 posts. My goodness. That's a lot!

  9. I'm thinking a zoo - probably due to Madagascar 3 in the school holidays and countless readings of 'Mr McGee and the big bag of bread'.

(Don't feed the animals, the noticeboard said, But Mr McGee had a big bag of bread....)

  10. The question is not simple. The gates are small. Maybe it is the gateway to your garden?
Congratulations to the 1000 post. A very interesting blog.

  15. Congrats on 1,000 posts!! That seems so far away for me. I have no idea since I don't travel, but I'll guess Buckingham Palace - they look like very formal gates. Thanks for sharing.

  16. I'll never guess, but I just wanted to say, I love how you look at everything in terms of how it can be turned into a quilt design, some very special eyes you have there :o)

  17. First I said: It look like the bars gate.
But now I think it could be a garage door with two hinge on each side.

  18. I have no idea other than it is some kind of metal gate, fence or window bar. Pretty, though
