Two new tree quilts

I really enjoyed making the two wintry tree quilts, and decided to make some more, with a view to selling on Etsy. First I experimented with spring and autumn.

Here's spring pieced and appliqued and ready to sandwich, and somewhat washed-out by the flash:
And here it is quilted and trimmed and with the binding fabric I've chosen:
And here's autumn; first the completed quilt top :
And here quilted and with the two binding options:
Any preference on the bindings? I like the extra zing the bottom left fabric gives, but wonder if it's too much. The other is a 'safer' choice but seems to be missing something.

  1. Since you asked... I prefer the "safer" binding on the right. But if you have enough fabric, make it on the bias so when it's applied it looks like a spiral. That's my most favorite way to give a quilt a little extra interest.

  2. Emma you never cease to amaze me. These are such beautiful quilts. Do you use raw edge, blanket stitch or needle turn applique??

  3. Great tree quilts! You should have no problem selling on etsy, with such beautiful work. Someone will snap them right up!
Initially, after just a quick glance, I liked the brown binding ...but then after a second look, the zingy binding is definitely better, I think.

  5. Wow! These are lovely. It is such a nice idea to make a tree for a season! I like the safer binding. The impact of the red and orange leaves show better when the binding doesn't have the same colours. I like Linda's suggestion of using the fabric on bias.

  6. Love the trees!
I actually prefer the binding on the left. You are right, it has more "zing" but i don't think it is too much.

  7. Hope you sell them all! Do you have any more of that green from the inner binding? I think that would help to frame it better :)

  9. sorry can't decide between the bindings...one is maybe too much one is maybe not enough but both would probably look great when done

    did i mention i am a libra?

the etsy thing is a good idea but networking yourself through facebook would probably help with the etsy sales too

  10. Definately the 'zing' fabric. It ties it all together in my opinion.

  11. I vote for the 'zing' too!!

  12. Sorry, I am going to vote for the safer option.. the zing is good but seems a tad out of place to me.

I love the idea of a quilt for each season - I can imagine them all on a wall in a stair-way or hall or something. Good luck with Etsy! The amount of blog traffic you get I say go for it!!!

  13. I like both but I really love the Autumn quilt. I prefer the safer option - but also wonder how the green would go (Cascade lily's suggetion).
Let me know when you list it and if I've got some spare cash it can come live with me!
