Parade of Elephants

Here at last are photos of Parade of Elephants, the quilt I made for my nephew, Edward.

It features the delightful flannel elephant print that Valori sent me from her new Bliss range (now available in shops, and there's already a large quantity headed my way!)

I already have plans for a larger quilt like this for Sarah, since she's the one who really loves elephants.

I did the quilting-in-the-ditch free-motion on the elephant blocks. It's not perfect - but it's pretty good, and excellent practice. Besides, Edward is more likely to spew on it than examine it!

I used a new curves ruler to quilt the scallops on the border.

Valori's flannels are the softest I've found, with a nice, tight weave.

(taken in direct sunlight, to show the quilting better)

It was such a  lovely day to be photographing a quilt outside, that I decided to take some more creative photos, and what better props for an elephant quilt than elephants?

Eleanor has a few elephants, so I gathered them while she had her nap and took them outside for a tea-party with the beautiful miniature tea-set that Gran gave Eleanor for her birthday.

This photo has the irises and ranunculus I planted with James in the background:
