1 Kilometre!!!

This is what a kilometre of quilting fabric looks like:
I was going to stack it in a single tower, but logistics (and a fear of the whole stack falling over!)prevented that.

I actually have a pretty good idea of what's where, and can find fabrics fairly easily.
Gaps in the boxes are where I've pulled fabrics out for projects etc., usually they're all pretty full!

Here's what helpde get me over the line today:

A big stack for me:

Here they all are:
This selection is for a commission, and doesn't go towards the stash. It is not ironed, because today's forecast is a truly hideous 44 (that's 111F) and I'm doing all I can to keep the house cool. Apart from having the air conditioner on all day and into the wee hours, I have all the curtains and blinds drawn, and have pinned blankets and so on over the larger windows without heavy sun-out curtains to further help. I refuse to turn the iron on!

And now the bit you've been waiting for - the GIVEAWAY!
I'm giving away 3 sets of 40 6.5in charm squares. That's about a metre of fabric each. Why 6.5in? Because I have a ruler that size, so it'll be easy to cut!
What colour would you like? Or maybe a theme? It has to come from my stash, but I'll try to accomodate your preferences. Would you like blues, reds, stripes, florals, marine, leaves, wintry....? Something else??
How to win? Just post, and give your preference(s). I haven't really decided how I'll choose the winners, but make it interesting or funny, and you might help your chances! Overseas entries welcome.
so... STASH = 1.016 kilometres!

(Oh, how I did enjoy writing that!)
PS - For those asking or wondering, I was a bit sneaky and did the photos in advance in the relative cool of the weekend. I did NOT do it in today's heat.

Do I improve my chances if I'm the first too comment!?? LOL 1km of fabric!!! And you dragged it all outside to take a photo on a 44 degree day! My preferences if I win? Hmmmm, any Kaffee Fassett prints in there? :)

Congrats!!

I think it should go to a loyal blogging comment-er...Like Me!! :)

I wonder if you would part with some blue snowflakes???

I'm also impressed with dragging it outside Thanks!!

I thought my stash was over the top!!!
Tell the truth, you've popped your kids in some of those boxes to pad them out and make them look fuller. I think I can see someone's left foot in one of the boxes in the centre tower.
As for my preferences ... I love warm colours: reds and pinks especially.
You'd better go inside now and strap some ice cubes on to your jamies. It's going to be a very hot night.
Stay cool.
Andi :-)

Congrats on hitting the 1km :)
A job well done (& am sure much enjoyed!!!)

Now it would have been cool to get a pic of it all laid out reaching a Km... suppose that would have been a logistical nightmare ;)

My preferences should I win... I love all fabric - I'm not fussy!

Yep, loyal blogger comments are the go! Ok, I shall thou select orange! Or spots. Or dog fabrics. Or whatever!

Wow Emma - and my hubby winges about my single (yet overflowing) tub of quilt fabric. How DID you manage to sneak it all in?!

If I am the lucky winner, I'll put down for animal prints, or dare I say it... pinks/whites. I think having a girl baby is making me start to like pink!!! And I have next to none in my stash.

Now if I every have a problem with my hubby complaining about me buying for my stash, I am going to show him this post. Well done. Out of interest how long would you have had the oldest piece for? Fabric preference... I am doing a Dear Jane so any reproduction fabric would be great.

Wow! 1km in fabric, now that is super impressive :0) Congratulations. I look forward to seeing the next 1km... lol :P

Fabric preferences: anything pink and sparkly.

I'm having a love affair with orange in all it's hues. My stash is curiously barren of solids, so those would be terrific too.

Wow Emma! That is insane!! My partner would kill me for contemplating that much fabric.
If I won I would ask for reds/blues/aquas.

Leah said...

Congratulations! I'd choose reds if I were a lucky winner. I'm a little surprised by your photo though - it's scary because.... i think i might have nearly the same. And no, DH doesn't know the details... but nor would he care!

What a milestone Emma! I am impressed - but I think more impressed that you have actually kept a record :)
I would choose bright tone-on-tones if I were a lucky winner

Oh Emma, what a fabulous stash! You look like the lady on the Price is Right saying "it's a new stash!!!!" LOL. And I did just show my husband to make him feel better about my tiny stash - I said 'you know the lady who has 1km of fabric...' - yes you are notorious in this house ;)

If I were lucky enough to win I would love reds, oranges and blues.

crikey. Over 1km of fabric. You do have a lot, don't you? I am so unbelievably jealous - you have NO idea!!! AND to top it all off you have the prints charming blue stars, and the stripes - I can't find them ANYWHERE.

I hope you're staying cool. I've sent some cold weather over in an email - I hope it helps ;)

that is an horrendous amount of fabric.

My choice if I was lucky enough to win would be anything bright.

Love and hugs Gina xxx

Wow, Emma. That is amazing. You are one lucky gal!! I am in total envy and awe of you - my stash of 7m is very piddly compared to yours (and mine all fits into my sewing cabinet, hee hee). You have been my inspiration to take up quilting (does sucking up get more brownie points, hahahaha)! My preferences are very simple - anything goes. Congratulations!!

1 Kilometre of fabric! OMG, I am very envious! My poor little plastic roller tub stash would love to have some more fabric to keep it company! Pinks and Greens for me please if I win! :)

Hi! I found your blog through Katy's giveaway I'm doing also. 1 kilometre??? I don't even know how much that is, (We don't use those pesky kilometres over here) but I know I'm jealous. You can never have too much fabric, that's what I always say. And I'd love to be in your giveaway! If I were to win, I couldn't imagine limiting it to one catgory. How about a good variety? Choosers choice??

Wow, I have only recently been following your blog. You are an inspiration to have completed so many quilts last year with two kiddos. I also have a 3.5 year old and a 2 year old and I have no idea how you do it! If I were to win a selection of prints, I would choose green/blue or I-SPY type fabrics.

How long is your tape measure?

Off the top of my head I think that is about 1.6 miles of fabric. Maybe you can celebrate the two mile mark soon?
It is all folded and organised so neatly, but i bet those tubs weigh a tonne. Hey maybe you can measure it by weight now?

My preferences - you colour sense is so much better than mine so make it a surprise!

Wow! One kilometre of fabric! Hmmm, if I win I'd go for blues or Japanese prints please!

So many gorgeous fabrics (I love your stash posts). You have a great eye for colour matching. Congrats on passing the 1km mark and for having it all neatly stored. When are you going to start your '1 square of every fabric' quilt? you might have to make a couple of them (as your stash will always be increasing :).

That is awesome! I too am a fabric addict. My husband tells people that I collect fabric. I really love patchwork and quilting, but don't do as much as I'd like to - blasted mortgage requires me to work for a living. LOL Anyway, I figure that buying up lots of fabric now is an investment in the future. By the time I retire and have time to indulge in daily sewing I won't have the $$$ to buy fabric, plus, all my fabric will be vintage/retro and sell for a fortune on ebay! LOL Sorry for such a long comment - you may have guessed that I'm a bit of a chatterbox! Please put my name in your giveaway hat. If i'm one of the lucky winners my preferences are all things Purple, Kaffe Fassett, Amy Butler, Retro, Bright and Pretty - just to narrow it down a bit for you. :-)

That is just fantastic!

I think most of us dream of having that sort of stash to choose from. I'd want to look at it all day.

Fabric for me? Hmmm, out there or vintage looking. Just the odd stuff, maybe even a little bit of blue so I can finish my poor old half done snow flake? :-D

I wonder if I'm too late to enter... or if I'm just scratching in the nick of time... ;)

Love your blog!

My husband would definitely have me institutionalized if he thought I had anywhere to 1km! (fortunately he probably doesn't know how to accurately measure the stuff anyhow :0))

I happen to adore the fairy frosts, and all those glorious colors that they come in...

Helen said...
