I have finally (thankfully!) finished my sister-in-law's wedding quilt. I've called it Nullarbor Stars, after the Nullarbor Plain (or, as one American teacher at the International School in Manila tried to teach us, "Plains in some countries are called 'savannahs'; this (pointing at said plain) is the 'New South Wales Savannah'." For those of you not overly familiar with Australian geography, New South Wales happens to be across the other side of the country! I was up out of my seat correcting him in no time, and it took a while to convince him he was way off the mark; the fact that I'd recently driven across it finally seemed to be the clincher.
Anyway, the Nullarbor lies between Annette and her new husband, who live south of Perth, and us here in Adelaide. And it's big (over 1000km east to west, and containing a 150km stretch of dead-straight road) which is how this quilt felt as I quilted it!
I finished the quilting while we were away over Easter, and finished hand sewing the binding down tonight. Now I just need to photograph the monster properly, and it will be ready for my mother-in-law, who has kindly offered to take it with her when she visits them in a few weeks.
